Just in case there is any confusion as to how steep the hill is.
Those things at the base are cement pillars. Probably to keep people like me from sliding down the snow covered hill. ;-)
This was taken from the top of the hill, looking up. The pedestal was so massive that I could only see the front of the lion's head.
Again, I could only see the tip of the tail from the base of the pedestal.
This picture of the lion was taken from about 10 steps down.

Yes, people with heart problems should not climb 200+ stairs.
I wonder how many tourists have heart attacks every year?
