A few key things about my career:

  • I enjoy using back-end programming and system administration. I have strong UNIX command-line and shell scripting skills.
  • One system I built for Ascentive back in 2001 is still in use, and has brought in over $50 million in revenue.
  • I prefer open source technologies. My favorite ones are PHP, node.js, Google Go, statsd, and Riak.
  • I write open source code! Here's my list of projects on GitHub:
  • I am a big big fan of cloud computing, specifically Amazon Web Services. I have first hand experience creating and working in production environments that are a mix of technologies such as EC2, S3, SQS, and SNS. Oh, and EMR too.
  • I have startup experience. I was employee #16 at TurnTide (purchased by Symantec for $28 Million), and employee #8 at Zooyan (which later morphed into CliqSearch and then Whims). I architected the latter entity's infrastructure on AWS and am responsible for 600 million API calls to Facebook Graph in roughly 1 year.
  • I enjoy using Chef for configuration management and Vagrant for local development. I even used them both at the same time.

I'm always interested in hearing about new opportunities and unique challenges. If you'd like to chat, please contact me.
