  • Is this list still active? (5 Aug 2010)

As of this writing, not really, no. With forum software becoming more and more popular over the last decade, people are using email for communities less and less.

I'll still maintain the mailing list and the archives for the foreseeable future, but I would urge folks to visit the Pennsylvania Furries website instead, as it has become much more active recently. The website is at http://www.pa-furry.org.

    What is this list?

This is the Pennsylvania Furry mailing list, or PA-Furry for short. It's primarily for furries who live in the Pennsylvania area to gather online and chat.

    What can we discuss?

Whatever furries in PA like to talk about, of course. Smiling Local events, furry gatherings, the fandom in general, or just about any combination thereof is fair game. Unless it's something that doesn't belong here, I don't think there will be any complaints.

    What doesn't belong here?

Since this list is open to furs of all ages, minors included, adult topics such as excessive swearing or posts of a sexual nature probally shouldn't be made to the list. Flames and threats probally aren't a good idea, either.

Can we send files to the list?

I'd rather you didn't. First, the list software will hold it due to its size and second, it will drastically inflate the size of the list archives. (At the time of this writing, 5 years worth of list archives come out to be 95 Megabytes of data.

If you do have a piece of artwork, or a story, or something else you'd like to share, you are more than welcome to post a URL to the list so that furs can check it out themselves.

How do I join the list?

By pointing your browser to http://lists.claws-and-paws.com/mailman/listinfo/pa-furry and filling out the subscription form. After you do this, you will receive an e-mail to confirm your subscription. This prevents someone else from maliciously subscribing you.

Ok, I joined, now how do I post to the list?

    Send e-mail to pa-furry (at) lists.claws-and-paws.com.

Can I get the mailing list as a daily digest?

Absolutely. You have the option to do this when you initially sign up. You can also switch your subscription to a digested version by editing your subscription from here.

How do I unsubscribe from the list?

If you want to leave the list, you can go to the subscription page, choosing to edit your subscription, and unsubscribing from there.

    Is this list archived?

Yes, this list is archived so that a newcomer to the list can browse through previous posts. You can access the archive here.

    Are there any furmeets?

There are some furs who hold meets, but currently there is no regular schedule in effect. If you want to host one, please continue on to the next section...

I want to run a furmeet, what do I need to do?

If you want to run your own furmeet, say in another part of the state, or are running one in a nearby state, and want to post details of it here, feel free. Try to have the following information in your post, however:

    • Dates - When will the furmeet be running? When is the earliest that furs can arrive and the latest they can leave? This is often helpful for furs that may be traveling several hours or more to get there.
    • Who's going? - Posting a list of furs that are coming will be helpful, since we all know this isn't a perfect world and some furs don't get along with other furs.
    • Sleeping - Can furs crash at your place? If so, will there be bedding, or will they need to bring sleeping bags, etc.?
    • Address - This will allow furs coming in from far away to plug your address into Mapquest and get directions to your place.
    • Phone number - A phone number where someone can be reached also helps, especially if there are any last minute questions before the meet, or if someone gets lost on their way to the meet and needs directions. Giving the real name of the fur also helps prevent embarassing situations, in the event that a parent/sibling/etc. picks up the phone...
    • Activities - Will there be any activities? If so, where/when will they take place? Will they cost any money?

Gee, it'd sure be nice if there was a calendar of events!

Well, now there is! Please see http://pafurry.claws-and-paws.com/events for more information.

Web-based forums would be nice too!

Fair enough. You can find them at http://pafurry.claws-and-paws.com/. Happy posting!

Do I have to live in Pennsylvania to join?

Not at all! Furs who are visiting the area are welcome to join the list. We have had furs as far away as Norway join the list because they would be visiting the area.

    Who's in charge here?

<scratches his head> Um... me, I guess. So if you have any problems or complaints about the list, I'd be the one to write to.

What about someone scraping my address from the list archives?

That's not as likely to happen with the latest release of Mailman, since it munges email addresses that are publicly displayed.

What other furry resources are there?

If you're trying to find other furries in your general area, you might want to visit the Internet Furry Proximity Locator.

I have a question that's not on here!

Not a problem, you're welcome to
e-mail me and ask. And if I don't know, I'll just refer you to the list. Smiling

Thanks for reading this FAQ, and please let me know if you have any questions.
